We spent a week in France for our daughter's wedding in Antibes. I knew it would be challenging at times. I counted on no handrailings, uneven streets, curbs, stairs, and no real accommodations for people with disabilities. The worst part was the Paris ORLY Airport and their handling of people with disabilities. I arrived with my family over 5 hours before my flight left, was told several times to walk to the end of a longer line to get a wheelchair (I questioned the logic of this each time to a response of dumb looks or I really don't care attitudes). When someone finally listened we were brought to a central holding location for disabled people (humiliating), told that I was not allowed to leave, they had my boarding pass and would not give it back and did not proceed to take me to security and the terminal until 1 hour and 15 minutes before boarding time. They would not listen to us, said only 2 people could go along with me when they pushed my wheelchair and my 75 year old mother in law who was understandably having issues without her husband there felt compelled to leave where we were to find her way to the terminal. It was humiliating, nerve racking and unnecessary. I signed an electronic device when I got to the gate which I thought was just meaning they dropped me off, but as I was finishing I noticed it said I stipulate that do not need help getting on the plane. I should have refused to sign, but was grateful just to get to the gate in time for boarding. There were a lot of things in France that were great, but I have many more examples of things that were not conducive to an acceptable experience for a person with a Disability. I plan to pursue complaints with the airline with whom I reserved a wheel chair and the airport. Besides that France was wonderful and if you have the chance to go amd have people with you who can assist, it is a great experience.
