I'm honestly not on any medications now, but should I be? my family has pretty much always told me "if you can't make yourself happy then use the medications the doctors prescribe you."

I think if you've tried things and nothing is helping medicine is a good way to get help. Medicine doesn't make me happy but it does help my symptoms not be as severe. Like that person said, would you not want a cast or crutches even if your leg is broken? Some of us need help with our brains to heal and do what they're supposed to. There's no shame in help. For me, the more help I have the better I am

My question is no sarcasm. If the doctor prescribed them, I’m sure they thought you needed them.

I agree with the other commenters, first is your depression effecting your daily life? Then yes, talk to your doctor. I look at it this way, if you had a bad headache would you take a couple Tylenol? If you twisted your ankle would you take ibuprofen to bring the swelling down?

If you personally feel you need them, go for it. Just bring it up to your doctor and they can survey you. There’s no shame in the medicine game and it sounds like you have your family’s support. 🤗

Honestly, if you feel like you don't need meds to sustain your depression, you shouldn't need it.

That’s what I asked myself before I got prescribed meds. Honestly if you really think you need them you should ask about it!!
