Having severe separation anxiety about leaving my cat, who I’ve had since his birth 14yrs ago. Leaving back to finish college onsite and he’s old. I’ve gotten a locket to keep a picture of him in and I’m leaving a couple blankets that I use for sleep as well. Is there anything else I can do besides getting together with friends once I’m back to school? He’s getting older and I’m afraid he’ll think I’ve abandoned him if he’s entered his final moments. I know this usually takes 1-3 weeks but I wouldn’t forgive myself if I left him to die when he needs me the most.

I got a cat when I was 6. She lived for 19 years. Slept on my pillow, protected me from approaching persons and let me use her as a pillow on occasion . Your cat is very important, but you can't take it everywhere. When you go to college you will not have time and will feel guilty for neglecting it when things are insane. Visit your baby if you can, if not video chat and talk to them. They are not going to forget you, they will still love you when you get back

You could also set up a little camera so you can talk to him sometimes!

I have a kitty too. she’s getting older, and she’s such a comfort place for me as well. i graduate this coming year and am so scared and anxious of leaving her, for the same reasons as you. It’ll be hard to leave them, but i’m sure they know we will come back. give him all the love in the world before you leave, and that’ll be enough to keep him happy and excited for when you come back. I hope this gets easier for you💕

If your Docter signed him off as a ESA could you take your kitty with? You’ve both been together and you’ve both been each other emotional support. And if you need it and have reasons for it they may allow… Although I’ve never lived in any dorm before I don’t know for sure.
