Who else has been diagnosed with ADHD later in life but have had symptoms your entire life? I was just diagnosed last year at 49 but symptoms have gotten worse with perimenopause. I used to just think I was dumb and lazy.

if you’re female it may be getting worse because of the age you are reaching. if you didn’t have adhd, menopause would still suck! but with adhd, it causes it to increase the symptoms a lot. when you were younger if you had those moments where you’d feel as if you were going insane every month, it’s because you were. now you’re about to go through that same feeling as you did before. my best suggestion is to keep your head up and remember, you’re not insane you’re just mentally ill. keep fighting! ❤️

I was diagnosed with ADHD, Anxiety, and PTSD at 55 years old and I’m now 58. I’ve suffered from the ADHD all my life.

My mom was diagnosed at around 36 after spending most of her adult life thinking she was bipolar. She was started on Adderall and there was an immediately noticable difference. She started finishing things, including her thoughts and sentences, and she was much less anxious all the time. I was 11 or 12 at the time and while it was a little too late, I suddenly had a mom. After she was diagnosed, a lot of behaviors in me and my younger brother also made a lot more sense, and getting my autism dx encouraged my mom to get hers (she was tested in the 70s, but it was the 70s so it was not helpful or accurate lol). I thought I was broken on a fundamental level, esp when it came to social situations and medications. My mom and I have the opposite reaction we're supposed to have to stimulants and depressants. Doctors could not figure out why everyone in my family was so atypical until my mom was diagnosed with ADHD and the rest of the dominoes fell from there. It's crazy how much one dx helped my entire family understand each other

Hi. I am a 44-year-old, married woman with two ADHD kids and also I am a college student majoring in psychology (junior). I have been diagnosed with ADD recently. I found it hard to concentrate on exams with time-limits, easily get distracted with sounds.

I was diagnosed in college. I took meds for a while but couldn’t deal with side effects. It’s a daily struggle.

I was basically just diagnosed this month, I don't know how "later in life" 27 is but still haha. I've always been told it was self discipline problems and was blamed. It's still kind of blowing my mind remembering the past struggles that suddenly honestly weren't my fault. My sister also got diagnosed at around 30. My mom at close to 70 almost definitely has it too, but hasn't gotten evaluated yet

I found it hard to keep up with others as a child. It wasn't until having my 2nd child I found an article that connected ADHD symptoms with estrogen levels. Makes sense why I was diagnosed after my 1st was born. My hormones were all over the place.
