I'm a late diagnosed (ASD/AS) (at 25, now 26). I started counseling soon after diagnosis. I feel like it is not making an impact. I understand it takes time, but I feel lost in therapy, and I have mentioned this with the therapist. Does anyone have advice for me?

Wow, I'm surprised to read this here, because I feel the same way. Talk therapy has NEVER made me feel better. They just point things out that I already know.

We're misdiagnosed as BPD all day long because we have similar issues re: low tolerance for frustration, meltdowns, and PTSD. Use their therapy methods. DBT was developed from CBT specifically for borderline personality disorder. All autists have PTSD from living in the wrong world, essentially.

I'm glad I'm not alone. So many NTs say, "therapy has changed my life!". I understand we are all individuals and I really "new" to ASD (don't know much about it since it's new to me") but I'm wondering if there are better types of therapy or specialists for ASD individuals? Do we just have a more difficult time, or is it effective? I think we would agree stylin_star; it feels like a waste of time. I'm curious if perhaps it's effective in subtle ways or, if at all. (We are all individuals, though, so maybe it's personality? Do NTs have this issue?)
