I’ve done EMDR. It was very helpful for desensitization of past trauma.

@Heidi_M did you have a big T trauma or more complex little t trauma?

I had several years of EMDR therapy. I’m here to answer any questions you have. To be honest, at first I thought it “undid” me in the same way trauma did, but after years of feeling depressed and sad, something finally changed. Like I saw the light at the end of a dark, long tunnel. And now I’m basically a workaholic. I have a job and my own business working with animals. All the things my therapist and I talked about are coming to fruition. Good luck and let me know if you want to chat.

@RxQueen Hi! Currently I’m wondering how much it’s doing for me as I don’t seem to have the life changing experience I see others talk about. I’ve been doing it for over a year now and have never gotten through the 8 phases due to a lot of complex trauma and the need for preparation. Just wondering if I’m doing something wrong.

@smkeaton don’t worry about it. You are not doing anything wrong. This takes time and patience, and is very traumatic in itself. Having to remember things from your past, while making a new pathway in your brain at the same time is a lot of work for your brain and your mind. So don’t give up and give it some time. It might get worse before it gets better but keep up with your therapist and when it’s time to end the therapy, make sure you stay in therapy for something like cognitive behavioral therapy, or just psychotherapy in itself. It’s very important to keep in contact with the therapist, even after the EMDR is done. You’re doing great by the way. I know it’s really really hard but don’t be hard on yourself and trust in it. It will work. 🫶

@Lau36 hey! Just wondering what do you mean by course of EMDR? Was it self- led or did an EMDR therapist do it with you? I’m curious because I’m finding it really hard to find EMDR therapists in network with my insurance but I’ve been wanting to do EMDR for years now… thinking to just learn about it / start on my own and go from there

@Tiredgirl1331 i’m in the UK so i had an NHS course provided to me for free. it was a set number of sessions and once those sessions were complete i was discharged from the service.

I'm getting back into EMDR therapy hopefully if the lady at my mental health place that they've signed me up with does it I did request it, it's been the best therapy in my life but I've just restarted therapy so I'm not quite in it at the moment but I love to sing its praises.

I just got out of therapy and that's something we supposed to do today. But we didn't have enough time because other things came up.
