Does anyone have any experience with therapy helping with symptoms of dissociation? I was diagnosed with moderate dissociative symptoms associated with trauma/anxiety/depression. I've been working actively towards resolving in therapy and it's been really hard. Anyone with experience or thoughts?

This might sound crazy, but try either a really sour candy like warheads or eating something like a lemon. My therapist suggested it for when I dissociate and I thought she was crazy until I tried it myself. The really strong flavors help bring you back to reality enough to work on other grounding techniques to bring yourself out of either a dissociation episode, or even a panic attack. It's definitely worth giving it a try :)

My therapist recommends the sour candy or rubbing ice on your forehead or the back of your neck. The shock helps reset your nervous system. I also advocate for square breaths (breathe 6, hold for 6, exhale 6, and hold 6 then repeat)

Therapy has a lot of different options. My personal choice is EMDR. it's about bilateral stimulation that makes you reprocess trauma in a safe and monitored environment. It really does help with dissociation!

Sometimes I go outside for a walk and try to focus on things I physically feel, like the warmth of the sun, the breeze on my skin

He said that the fight or flight mode makes the part of your brain activate that isn’t as much involved with your memory, so you feel weird and distance from things. Man I hate it, lol, it makes me freak out even more. But my anxiety med helps some

I have experienced it some. I just saw a therapist for a it. He said it was associated with my anxiety. It’s especially at night for me. I think the way to treat it is to treat the anxiety.
