Hello! In my state I qualify for medical marijuana because of CPTSD. I plan to register sometime next year, and I was wondering if anyone who medicates/self medicates had any recommendations for how I should take it or what strains work for you etc etc. Please let me know! I will be taking cannabis for CPTSD symptoms, insomnia, and chronic pain.

I'm new here but I've been using cannabis to help my cptsd for a couple years now and it's helped so much. I try to use indicas or indica dominant hybrids. They're relaxing as opposed to stimulating. Don't overdo or it can cause anxiety. Not a cure, just a helpful tool. Again, please use sparingly or it will make you feel worse.

I'm currently using broad spectrum CBD oil capsules (says to take 1 day, but spacing out 2 has better benefits), Hyaluronic Acid Complex supplements (2-3x a day recommended dose), and Aleve liquid gels every 12hrs for chronic pain. They help me stay moderately active with much less bone pressure pain.

I use it for the same reasons but I use edibles and topical creams, and since those can be region-specific, I don't know what to recommend.

I personally like edibles the most, I found RSO edibles help me the best and are the "strongest". I prefer indica strains as they help me relax more, but if you need to be up and ready to do stuff I think a hybrid strain would work good too. You can also buy your flower and make your own edibles lol

Edibles and dab pens/vapes are great and low key but they both can be incredibly expensive with how often you have to buy and how much set up you have to buy for them, especially if you're medicating frequently throughtout the day for pain, and it's possible that the vape causes more sore throats and lung problems than flower and some people have an issue with edibles where their body doesn't metabolize it correctly and it doesn't really work. I've also noticed an issue finding decent strains in both at least where I live. I prefer cactus OG, Nanitro, or true OG for productivity and pain relief and rare darkness, northern lights, or Skywalker OG for sleep. I also like blue dream, super sour fire og, and Hazelnut cream to deal with mental symptoms while I'm hanging out. Flower is frequently cheaper and can be easier to use but from what I can tell most people roll joints way too big for just themselves. Gram and half gram pre rolls from the dispensary are an outright a waste of weed since so much burns away if there's only one person smoking and we can turn that into like 4+ actual joints that cut down on waste. Joints are also portable which can help too. To avoid dealing with rolling a joint, which actually turned out to be easier than i thought, I used to use a smallish pipe and hit that until I felt decent and saved the rest for later but that can require a lot of rubbing alcohol and clean up and despite having rool and to pick up lost joint ends before my cats can steal and eat them it can be easier to do small joints.

I have asthma so I make my own cannabis infused coconut oil and take it almost every day, just a teaspoon or less.

I would recommend edibles! least maintenance, safest, and gives more sustained benefits than other forms (in my experience). I like infused chocolate or other sweets - I just take some after dinner a few nights a week when I know I’ll have trouble sleeping or relaxing in general. the advice for edibles is “start low, go slow” because it takes a while to start kicking in as the body metabolizes active components more gradually via the stomach, to the liver, to the bloodstream, and finally to the brain. if you feel like nothing is happening, I would suggest giving it multiple hours before taking any more, and always go up in small increments. dosage for edibles is generally measured in THC potency, but as previous comments have said, that can be a slippery slope. something that’s becoming more common is edibles with equal amounts of THC and CBD, which is labeled “1:1”. a good starting dose might be ~2.5mg, but be aware that many premade edibles are 5+. luckily they are usually very easy to just split into pieces! indica is definitely the way to go. the effects are felt more in the body than the brain, and it quiets the mind more than sativa, which tends to activate very intricate thought processes and associations you’ll probably want to avoid in looking for CPTSD relief. I think I’ll make a separate comment to share my own experiences!

The best to start out with is heavier on the CBD and less of THC. Slowly work your way up and around. AC/DC is a wonderful 10 to 1 cbd/thc ratio. Grandaddy purple is my go to if my anxiety is bad.

i agree with everyone’s advice about high cbd ! depending on ur state and what’s available you might like a tincture (a liquid you drip in your mouth) to try out at the beginning ? lots of options w tch/cbd ratios and really easy to use :-)

Cannabis triggered a psychotic episode. I think it was because the THC was too high. I had to stop and recently started again. I’d recommend starting with edibles with a high CBD/THC ratio - 40mg CBD + 2mg THC works for me and reduces a lot of inflammation.

Hi there! I’m a budtender here in Arizona (I legally sell cannabis. And I’m a medical card holder) I suggest start with something LOW thc. This works best for myself and a few friends. Getting some CBD In your flower is critical as well; some as CBD doesn’t do anything but it’s in every flower whether detected through testing or not. Something at like 16-19% thc is a safe place to start. INDICAS- these are the best for me- I can get quality sleep, I can eat, and immediately intrusive thoughts or memory reactions (triggers) subside quickly. Sativas are day time use and are known to cause anxiety paranoia, if not careful. Hybrids are also a great option. Best of both worlds without it being super intense. Lmk if you need anything. 💕

Your green pharmacist will work that out for you for your first time. I see other posts encourage the vape pens, I have gotten a really sore throat and cough from them vs. flower

@tinyNana0508 Vape gives me a sore throat too and some herb wraps if they use soy ink. I alternate between smoking it and eating the herb straight, usually mashing it with my tongue so it doesn't get stuck in my teeth and swallow it like a pill.

In my experience, the best ways to take it if you want to be discreet, or not smell like weed is a dab pen or edibles. With a dab pen you are still smoking, but it's dabs which is a much less noticeable smell. I find edibles difficult to dose, but that's just me.
