Recently my pcp prescribed a blood pressure med because my BP was a little high. two days later I am ill, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, shaking, weak, the whole nine yards. I called the pcp on day 3 and never heard back. So I called again on day 7, they said it was just a stomach bug and to come in for my normal appointment the next day. I came in the following day to my pcp saying she thinks I have lithium toxicity and I need to go the hospital immediately cause it could be fatal. I'm like wtf? Ok. So I go to the hospital, do some tests and find out my lithium levels are high "but not high enough to cause your symptoms." I hadn't been on lithium for four/five days because the pharmacy was out of stock. He said unless you take a handful a day it wouldn't be that high. I'm like dude I take 5 pills a night, that's a handful! He still didn't think it was toxicity. My pharmacist when I went to get my lithium that night even stated I have a med that reacts with the lithium and told me to be careful. My thing is, did my pcp not bother to look at my med list before prescribing the BP pill? Or did she not care? Should I find a new pcp or just see what else she has up her sleeve.
