I’ve recently been trying to decide if I have Autism. I’ve taken like 6 online tests, I’ve read a lot of articles. I think I might be, but I just thought I’d ask if anyone has any advice? Should I talk to my therapist?

Hey! It’s really difficult and costly to get a professional autism diagnosis. And getting it professionally diagnosed really doesn’t change anything unfortunately. If you have it you can absolutely tell people and seek out resources. Therapy and psychiatric evaluations aren’t accessible usually. Always remember you know yourself better than anyone else.

Depending on where you're from for example I live in Colorado. But I was born in Washington State. I didn't get diagnosed with autism until summer before 6th grade. It takes a while to get a definitive diagnosis

Hey! I’ve been having the same thoughts recently. The cost is the biggest thing deterring me from getting a formal diagnosis, but I’ve heard that you can check in with universities near you to see if they have psychiatric/autism clinics where student doctors can help you for cheap or even free!

Self diagnosis is extremely common especially for people who aren't usually diagnosed due to ableism like women or people of color. I would only go through the process of getting an official diagnosis if you believe you could benefit from receiving medication or disability benefits that people receive with being professionally diagnosed
