A nurse practitioner slowly weened down my thyroid meds then said to stop them! I ended up in hospital for a week in myexedema coma. The endocrinologists said I have literally NO supply in my thyroid gland. Absolutely irresponsible medicine.

You need to think about side effects of coming off meds it could cause you more issues w write down pros and cons

@Toonces No I mean a doctor that looks at the whole picture, not just a few lab results. There’s a book called “stop the thyroid madness” it’s really helpful in getting proper treatment for thyroid. Most standard MD’s (at least the ones I’ve been to) have a very limited approach. Most didn’t even recognize I had a thyroid issue, wasn’t even until I saw a functional doctor

Hello, new to this app, but functional medicine is very helpful in addition to medication in treating Thyroid conditions. Lots of very informative podcasts out there that can help.

Ty.. why would you want to get off levothyroxine? I was told I'd be taking it for the rest of my life. It's cheap and i know of no side effects. It's the only way your doc can follow your status.

I tried on my own to get off of it, and after one month, I had to start it again. I actually felt better when I restarted.

Talk to your primary care physician before taking yourself off any meds

@Tye53 not me. Maybe someone else. I don't think there's anything alternatively we can do for Hypothyroidism other than meds.

@BlindOneLives well there are dietary changes one could make that some feel are extremely helpful. I don't know what they are exactly I know gluten free is one!

Probably nor a good idea with our condition.
