Weaning off Cymbalta, starting amitriptyline - experiences?

I take it for Osteoarthritis. 30mg night and 60mg daily. Some days it’s like I’ve taken nothing because I hurt so bad.

It can be both for depression and pain. I started as an antidepressant, but now it does double duty.

Is the Cymbalta for pain?

When switching from amitryptilne to cymbalta, I tapered down the amitryptiline then switched to cymbalta. Had no withdrawal symptoms. But got off amitryptiline before getting pregnant and it was awful. After my last child, got back on it as soon as my mood started changing. Pregnancy did my mood good.

I’ve never used that med. I’ve tried to come off Cymbalta before through help with my psych but with no success. I was miserable. I am addicted to it (my body is) but also it does curb pain from fibromyalgia, lupus and Sjogren’s. I’ve been on it for 13 years.

I’d love to get off at least my morning dose of 30. I tried stop taking it a few days and felt miserable

Be careful. Cymbalta is very addictive and will cause withdrawals.

I take 60 at night. I started 40 for a wk and 20 for a wk then the new med. Does Cymbalta make you gain weight? That explains a few things! The 60 was working ok but I started getting moody and feeling hateful, plus all I want to do is to be left alone and sleep. I can't do that because I take care of my 80 yr old mom who has uterine cancer and other family members (looong story). Now I don't even want to take the Anitriptolin! (Sp) 😥

How much Cymbalta are you on? I’m taking 30 Morning 60 at night.

I take trazadone for sleep

I went the other way around. I got off amitriptyline because I gained weight and couldn’t lose it. Having diabetes and high blood pressure, the weight was not acceptable to me.

Is it no longer working for you?? My doc wanted to add in the amitr. for sleep issues, but I figured another antidepressant will just add more weight 🤷‍♀️ lol
